Dec 16th session

It's been awhile since I've posted here- got very busy and fell off the blogosphere for a bit.
Here's some recent work from last week's session- love this model, Tania. These Hopper House sessions are so helpful for me, meditative and also just such a positive environment with all the artists and our collective effort to keep our self-sustaining program running.

Last week's figure drawing session at Hopper Hosue

Drawing the figure is so helpful for me- just drawing for the love of it, and especially when working with a model as
wonderful as Tania. This practice is essential for me as an artist on so many levels; keeping loose, stretching those 'drawing muscles'.

recent sketches at Hopper House

A great model, high energy and lots of fun sketching last week. Model Tania is phenomenal.

My take on a Hopper scene

This has been something I'd wanted to do for a long time. Having access to draw in Edward Hopper's house is such a fortunate situation. I was able to create a scene using rudimentary objects, some lighting, and the models did the rest. Next time we'll be sure to give ourselves a lot more time, or less poses.

May 27 at the Hopper house

I have this large piece of charcoal, the size of my fist, that I tried drawing with- the paper fought me a bit, with not quite enough 'tooth' (texture) to grab onto the harder charcoal,, but it was fun to challenge myself with a little bit of discomfort while drawing in the hopes of loosening up a bit. I'll try some more experimentation this coming Thursday. I find these weekly sessions so helpful- working to keep the drawing muscles stretched.

May 20th at Hopper House

Just a-doodlin and working to keep dust from my skillsets. Think I could loosen up and put a little more weight and drama- but having fun nevertheless.

May 13 sketching at the Hopper House

Just a few studies from our recent session at Hopper House. These weekly sessions are so helpful for me; working among other artists, and stretching my 'sketching muscles'.

Drawing at Hopper House April 15

Here's a few sketches from last week's drawing session. Always good to practice, and it helps when you've got a great model who strikes some good poses.

Sketches from Hopper House, 4-9-10

I'm thrilled with how the sessions at Hopper house are going; we've had such great attendance, from students to professionals and retirees.. the place fairly buzzes with creativity. Our model, Bobbi is always a pleasure to draw, using progressive poses.
Here's my studies from the session.

Figure drawing at Hopper House

Welcome to my new blog! I've decided to start this one and devote it entirely to my figurative sketches. My other blog will focus on illustrative and court art only.
These studies were 15-20 minutes each using charcoal and nupastels on newsprint. The slight tone to the newsprint gives the nupastel a nice 'bump' of color.
I monitor weekly figure drawing sessions at the Hopper House in Nyack, NY every Thursday evening. To see the work generated during those sessions click HERE
